The situation is not pleasant: Whirlpool washer displays error code E01 F01 and does not start. This indicates a very serious problem with the printed circuit, requiring cardinal measures and considerable costs, while other errors are not so dangerous.
What is error code E01 F01 with associated?
It belongs to the central control module and shows that:
- transistor EEPROM is damaged – non-volatile electrically erasable memory with re-recording up to 1 million times;
- normal signal conductivity between the EEPROM and the CCU (Central Control Unit), the mainboard, has disappeared;
- the entire central control unit has burnt out.
In the first and last cases, error E01 F01 appears due to a sharp voltage drop in the electrical network – both with increasing and decreasing.
Priority actions
First, unplug the cord and check the status of the outlet – voltage, polarity, grounding, dedicated circuit. If everything is normal, switch on the washing machine again, letting it stand for 1 – 5 minutes beforehand. This will help restart the unit and reset error code E01 F01. Did it remain? Then proceed to check the electronic microcircuit.
Qualified intervention
In Whirlpool washer error code E01 F01 is usually associated with the central control unit. And sometimes, it is associated with a transistor responsible for storing re-recordable memory. It means that if there is no information about the selected mode on it, then there will be no reaction to the commands.
EEPROM is damaged
An electrically erasable and automatically reprogrammable ROM is a black miniature relay. It is located on the mainboard and sends the received signal to enter the equipment into the required mode. In case of breakdown, the circuit breaks wherefore the washing machine stops working (current is supplied only to the electric motor). The best solution is to soldering contacts. If it does not help and error E01 F01 appears again, then replace the memory module. Its price depends on the country of manufacture, and it is about $ 3.
Broken CCU contacts
Wires, connectors, and a cable may also cause signal loss between the EEPROM and the control unit. For this, it is necessary to test the input/output power of the central board, as well as examine its main elements.
- Disconnect the equipment from the mains.
- Remove the top panel to access the electronics.
- Make sure that all connections to the interference filter (IF) are securely connected.
- Check the integrity of the plugs and connectors, as well as their tightness.
If everything is normal visually, but error code E01 F01 does not disappear, measure the mains voltage at the input of the interference filter: switch on the machine and set the voltmeter to alternating current. If there is no voltmeter, examine the power cord. Is it normal? Then solder the IF.
Also, make sure that there is power on the input line of the Central Control Unit: connect the probe to pins 1 and 2 of the IF2 connector. If it is missing, check the wiring harness and connections between the filter and the electronic module. Perform repair according to the detected violations: replace the power cord, transistor, or cable so that error E01 F01 doesn’t appear anymore.
Burnt-out control board
Whirlpool washer often displays error code E01 F01 after a short circuit or power surge. The only way out in this situation is to replace the electronic module, which costs $ 253 – 279. So it’s worth considering: perhaps, to buy a new washing machine?
Before you start dismantling a burnt-out CCU, take a photo or redraw the wire marking, sketch the circuit, or mark the connections with a marker. To install a new unit, slide the old one a little to the right and remove it.
